Gertjan’s life is the sea, sailing and water-sports are his biggest passion. After crossing oceans and seas for years, he joins Roca Sailing to share his passion and experience. He is a yacht maintenance and repair expert as well as a professional skipper. Last years he concluded five Transatlantic crossings in yacht deliveries and races, made many voyages around Europe, worked as a sailing instructor and participated in several important international regattas.

Career highlights: 

• 1st mate on a traditional gaff ketch

• Manager and instructor of a Sailing School in Lisbon

• Two full seasons of yacht deliveries, charters and regattas in the Caribbean

• Shore based participation in the Volvo Ocean Race

• Over 3000 miles sailed on a VOR 65 as delivery crew, watch leader and race crew

• Super yacht crew on a Wally Cento, Vitters 150 and other similar yachts

• Participation and results in many international offshore regattas as Rolex Middle Sea Race, RORC, Caribbean 600, Rolex maxi yacht cup and others
